Approach

Package Design | Poster Zine Design | Branding

Gone Wheeling is project designed around sustainable packaging for those who enjoy spending time in the outdoors. The goal was to design a package and poster zine for the ceramic artist that told a story about them and the product. We both had a shared love for Moab, Utah - where the artist enjoyed mountain biking and camping - so I focused the design around these activities by creating a forced connection between bikes & ceramic wheels.

To maintain an eco-friendly design, each element of the project focuses on serving dual purposes. The cups are packaged in a wooden, trifold box which serves display and functional uses. To protect the cups in transport, I thrifted fabric and made re-usable towels to reduce waste while camping. The zine about the artist not only tells you about the product but can be folded out to then be displayed as a poster. And of course, I included stickers as an additional take away!

Package Design

The wooden package is designed to strap onto the exterior of a backpack leaving your hands free. Once you have hiked to your camping spot you can enjoy a warm cup of coffee or drink of your choice and use the towels to clean up any spills.

Poster Zine Design

The zine that comes with the package gives the viewer a background of the project and serves it’s secondary purpose when unfolded as a poster.

Awards

I was nominated to represent the Graphic Design Department of Montana State University for the Year of Undergraduate Research that MSU hosted in the Fall of 2019. This project was displayed in the Helen E Copeland Gallery to showcase the research and process that goes into designing.
